Below we have listed some frequently asked questions, you probably have one of them.

Can I hike Mount Rinjani without a guide and porter?

Hiring a mountain guide is mandatory. To avoid any potential issues and safety concerns, Mount Rinjani National Park office has issued a rule that all foreign tourists must hire a local mountain guide and porter to accompany them during their hike.

How to hire a mountain guide and porter to hike Mount Rinjani?

It’s simple. Book a trekking package at Hajar Trekking. The package price covers mountain guide and porter. You do not need to bring necesarry foods and camping equipment – we provide tent, mattrasses, sleeping bag, pillow, cooking gear, portable toilet tent, camping chair and  meals along with drinking water.

Book a trekking tour in advance to ensure you have the spot. Let us know the lenght of the hike, how many people, and the dates. We will see the availability and trekking permits for you.

Do guides and porters carry my own backpack?

Porters are carrying everything needed for you and the group – food, water, camping gear and cooking equipment. However, you are responsible to carry your own backpack. With each backpack varying in size and weight, it would be hard to estimate how many porters are needed.

Can I hire an extra porter for my personal bags?

Sure, you can. Kindly consult with us. We are more than happy to advise.

Should I tip the mountain guide and porters in Rinjani?

Tipping is optional, but highly encourage, especially if you are satisfied with the service provided. You can decide the amount yourself.

What equipment do I need?

You should have, at a minimum, the following: a small backpack; a jacket; long pants; trekking shoes or running shoes with a good gripping sole; head lamp (if you’re attempting to go to the summit).

When is the best trekking time?

The best season to trek is the dry season, between April and December. All trekking routes to the summit are closed between January and March due to rainy season.

What is the pickup time from Senggigi, Kuta or Mataram?

If you’re staying the night prior to the hike at Kuta area, pickup from there will be at 3.30 am. While from Senggigi and Mataram, pickup is at 4.30 am from your accommodation lobby. Transportation to and from these locations is free, and included in all packages.

However, we recommend that you come to our base and stay with us the day before you begin trekking, so you can have a proper rest and so you don’t need to wake up very early to get started. We offer free accommodation in a local hostel/guesthouse for the night before the hike, plus you can get a light breakfast in the next morning – also included for free.

Can I leave my extra travel luggage with you during the trek?

Yes, most definitely. If you’re travelling and have more luggage than you need for the trek, you can leave the additional one at our office. In fact, we’re recommending you to only take with you what you need for the trek, and leave everything else at departure. You will have a much easier and better trekking experience.

What happens if I get injured? Is insurance provided?

Trek insurance is inclusive in the trekking permits and covers evacuation and first medical aids, however we’re recommending you to have your own insurance paid for before trekking Rinjani for a wider coverage.
