RINJANI TREKKING INFORMATION | Mount Rinjani or locally known as Gunung Rinjani is an active volcano in Lombok, Indonesia. It has become more and more popular among locals and international travelers alike, which is not surprising considering the incredible nature that it hosts, the amazing views, and the challenging but most rewarding trekking routes.
To the Balinese, Rinjani is one of three sacred mountains, along with Bali’s Mount Agung and Java’s Mount Bromo.
The local tribe people (Sasak) ascend throughout the year around the full moon. The Balinese are also tossing gold and jewellery into the lake in a ceremony called pekelan, before they slog their way towards the sacred summit.
How to Getting to Mount Rinjani Lombok
It is relatively easy to reach the island of Lombok, as transportation options are plenty.
By Air: the island is served by its own airport, Lombok International Airport, which you can fly to from domestic or international destinations.
By Sea: you can reach Lombok by taking a 2 hour fast boat from the more popular Bali, or ferries and speed boats from other islands in Indonesia.
What We Expect to See while Trekking Mount Rinjani
At 3 726 meters (12,224 ft), Rinjani is the second highest volcano in Indonesia. It has a 6 by 8.5 kilometer caldera, which is surrounded by a beautiful crater rim at altitudes averaging 2,600 + + meters.
Within the caldera, there is a beautiful lake (Segara Anak) of bright blue and turquoise color, with pristine water. The lake itself stands at an impressive 2,000 meters above sea level.
Rinjani is one of the few trekking places where you can sleep at so high altitudes without the need for professional equipment. This also means that you get to wake up and go to sleep above cloud level, at 2 600+ meters, which makes for an incredible experience and a unique photo taking opportunity.
Can We See Vulcanic Activity While Trekking Rinjani?
Although the volcano has small eruptions every few years, it is considered as safe for trekkers, as the routes are far from the eruption point. Many trekkers are actually keeping their fingers crossed for a small eruption, as it provides for an incredible experience and photo opportunity.

Trekking Rinjani will be one of the best adventures you will ever have. But it gets hard on the body, and a resting period afterwards is highly recommended.

Trekking Season – When Is the Best Time to Trekking Rinjani?
The best season to trek is the dry season, between April and December. All trekking routes to the summit are closed between January and March (both months inclusive). However, a Rinjani trekking package to the crater rim Senaru 2 days 1 night is still available on request.
Trekking Rinjani Packing List – Recommended Items to Bring

How Difficult Is It Trekking Rinjani?
For the majority of people, climbing Rinjani is a very challenging experience. But anyone with a reasonable fitness level can manage to reach the crater rim, or even the summit. Porters are carrying all food and camping equipment, which makes it much easier for you to actually complete the trek.
No rock climbing or technical climbing skills are needed.
The climb to the summit, is optional however. You can choose a package that doesn’t go to the summit, like the 2 Days 1 Night package. Or, you can choose a package that includes the summit climb (3 Days 2 Nights and 2 Days 1 Night), and decide at the end of the first day if you want to do it on the second day. If you feel that the first day was hard on your body and decide to skip the second day summit climb, you can always decide to do so.
Trekking Rinjani Package – What’s Included in It?
All of our Rinjani tour packages include all meals, drinks and needed equipment. However, equipment that is specific for each body size is not included, such as long pants, jacket, trekking sticks and head lamp.
Return and pickup transportation in Lombok area is also provided for free.
As well as mountain guide and porters. Porters are carrying everything needed for you and the group: food, water, camping gear and cooking equipment. However, you need to carry your own backpack.
